Sir Henry Kingsmill died in 1625, at the early age of 38, leaving a wi
dow and seven children. There is a handsome monument to him and his w
ife in Kingsclere Church, on an altar-tomb in the South Chapel. Ther
e are recumbent figures of a Knight and his lady in alabaster, with th
e following inscription: NORTH SIDE "Here lyeth the body of Sr Henr
y Kingsmill, Kt., Sonne and heire of Sr Wm. Kingsmill, of Sidmonton, i
the county of Southton, who married Bridgett White, one of ye Daught
ers and co-heires of John White, of Southwick, in said county of South
ton. Esq. by whom having issue Five sonnes and two Daughters, viz. Wil
lm., Henry, John, Thomas, Daniell, Ann and Bridgett. He left this lif
e for a better in ye year of ye Lord 1625, being the 38th year of hi
s age. Leaving his children to the pious care of their Mother, Dame B
idgett Kingsmill, who, having with great felicity educated and provid
ed for said children, did in ye year of ye Lord, 1670, being ye Forty-
sixth year of her Widowhood, in memory of her dear Husband, erect thi
s monument. SOUTH SIDE "The Lady Bridgett Kingsmill, who erected thi
s Monument, having lived a widow Forty-eight years in great Reputatio
and Honour, is at length joyned to her dear Husband This Fourth da
y of September, in the year of our Lord And satisfaction of their nume
ous and honourable offspring, who, having seen her decently deposite
d in this place, caused this inscription to be ingraved here. Source
