Henry was educated at Dr William Wooll's School and at 17 was a membe
of the group of 24 Inaugural Students of the fledgling University o
f Sydney, having successfully passed the first Matriculation Examinati
on in October 1852. The examination subjects were: Greek ? the 6th boo
k of Homer?s Iliad and the 1st book of Xenophon?s Anabasis Latin ? th
e 1st book of Virgil?s Aeneid, and the Bellum Catilinae of Sallust Ari
thmetic, Algebra, including simple equations, and the first book of Eu
clid. Henry moved to central Queensland in late 1859 as a pastoralis
t but floods forced him to move to Brisbane. In 1862 he became Clerk A
ssistant to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, 1881 Clerk of th
e Legislative Council then Clerk of the Parliament. In 1865 he wrot
e the following on the fly leaf of "The Descendants of Phillip Henry
, M.A." (see Sources): "Henry Wyat Radford Legislative Council Brisban
e This book I value exceedingly and take much pleasure in looking ove
the names of Descendants. It is naturally imperfect as to names - ma
y omissions - many new names could be added of men in this year 186
5 holding high positions in the Army, Navy & Church. HW Radford" O
page 48 of the book he annotated the names of his grandfather Rev Th
omas Radford MA and his immediate issue. A number of other annotation
s are made throughout, indicating he knew details of a number of the f
amilies listed. A link between Thomas Radford (b. 1748) and the last-l
isted male Radford of the Henry line (Daniel Radford, date of birth un
known, death prob after 1735) however is obscure and is neither show
nor can be found by reference to the usual sources (IGI, RootsWeb)
. Daniel's wife Mary (nee Harris) died in 1738, and it is possible bu
t unknown if he remarried and had further issue. It is also possible t
hat Samuel Radford and Eleanor (nee Henry) had additional male childre
not listed, and a line drawn from the couple to Rev Thomas' entry ma
kes one think this might be the case, however this appears to be unlik
ely as the book indicates their issue were "brought up by their uncle
, the Rev. Matthew Henry", so it seems probable the author listed al
l the children. In the 1903 and 1905 Censuses Henry was recorded as b
eing of "independent means", and had his son Harold living with him a
t "River Road, Toowong, Brisbane". Sources: http://www.usyd.edu.au/ar

on, 1844 The following obituary appeared in The Brisbane Courier o
2 Oct 1906: "The death is announced of Mr. Henry Wyat Radford, forme
ly Clerk of the Queensland Parliaments. Mr. Radford had been sufferin
g from an incurable throat affection, and his death, which took plac
e at his residence, River-road, Toowong, was not altogether unexpected
. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon to the Toowong Cemetery
, and the Rev. J. B. Armstrong officiated at the graveside. The deceas
ed, who was a son of Henry Wyat Radford, surgeon of the 62nd Regiment
, was born at Newcastle, New South Wales, on October 10, 1835. He wa
s educated by the Rev. Dr. Woolls, of Parramatta, at the Sydney Hospit
al, and the Sydney University. He came to Queensland in 1859, and enga
ged in pastoral pursuits on the Fitzroy River, being at one time par
t proprietor of Princhester station. About the time that separate gove
ment was granted to Queensland heavy floods occurred in the Centra
l districts. Mr. Radford's flock was among those destroyed, and he-wa
s practically ruined. In 1862 he entered the Queensland Parliamentar
y service, and acted as Clerk Assistant of the Legislative Assembly un
til June, 1881, when he was promoted to the position of Clerk of the L
egislative Council and Clerk of Parliaments, which had been rendered v
acant by the death of Mr. Fitts. The deceased held that office until 1
902, when in accordance with the retrenchment scheme he wae retired. T
he deceased, who in 1864 married Miss L. A. Sloan, at Newcastle, is su
vived by one son and two daughters, his wife having pre-deceased him
. Mr. Radford had latterly resided at the residence of Mrs. Thomas (on
e of his daughters), River-road, Toowong. His other daughter married M
. F. C. Belbridge, formerly Queensland Government Printer. The deceas
ed was very popular, not only among his friends, but also with his fel
low-officers, and Mr. L. A. Bernays (Clerk of Parliaments) last nigh
t paid a high tribute to the deceased's many good qualities." Source
